Editorial Policy
This page explains how Pet Deals 4U researches, writes and updates its guides, how products are chosen, and how the site is funded. It is written by the site’s editorial team, led by Scott Smith, who runs the site.
Who Writes Our Guides?
Pet Deals 4U is a small, independent UK website. Guides are researched and edited by the editorial team under Scott Smith. Drafting tools may be used to help prepare a page, but every guide is checked against our rules below before it goes live, and we remove or correct pages that fall short.
How Do We Research Products?
We base our guides on published information we can check:
- manufacturer specifications, size charts and care instructions, such as dimensions, weight limits, materials and washing guidance;
- retailer listings, including the details sellers publish and patterns in customer reviews and questions;
- owner advice from UK animal-welfare charities such as the RSPCA, PDSA, Blue Cross, Dogs Trust and Cats Protection, where it applies to the product.
We do not test products hands-on, and we never claim to have used, tested or measured a product ourselves. Where a detail depends on the maker, we say so.
How Are Products Chosen?
When a guide names products, we choose them for the reader’s situation, not for the size of any commission. We look for:
- a clear match with the need the page covers, such as a harness for a dog that pulls or a bed that fits a crate;
- full, published specifications, so you can check the details before you buy;
- current availability to UK buyers;
- consistent customer feedback, with recurring problems noted where we find them.
Some pages show general product styles linked to retailer search results rather than specific models, and the pictures on those cards illustrate a style rather than a particular product.
Do Brands Pay to Be Featured?
No. We do not accept payment, free products or other incentives in exchange for a place in a guide, a better position or a positive description.
How Is Pet Deals 4U Funded?
Some links on Pet Deals 4U are affiliate links. When you follow one to a retailer and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commission does not decide which products or features we write about, and we do not sell, stock or deliver anything ourselves.
Why Do We Focus on the UK?
Our guides are written for owners in the UK. We use UK English, metric measurements and UK sources, and we point readers to UK sources such as the RSPCA, PDSA and Blue Cross. Rules, products and availability differ in other countries, so please check local guidance if you are outside the UK.
Is This Veterinary Advice?
No. Our guides are general buying information. Health, diet, behaviour and suitability for an individual animal are best discussed with your vet, and we say so on the pages where it matters.
How Are Pages Kept Up to Date?
We review guides regularly and when we learn that something has changed, such as a product being discontinued, a specification being revised or a listing no longer being available. When we review a page we check its facts and links, replace products that are no longer available, and update the page. We also combine pages that cover the same question, so each topic has one clear, up-to-date guide.
How Can You Report a Mistake?
If you spot an error, an out-of-date detail or a broken link, please tell us through our contact page. We read every message and correct confirmed mistakes as quickly as we can. For questions about an order, delivery or a faulty product, please contact the seller named on the listing.
