How Much Clear Floor Does a Hen Need in a Run?

The British Hen Welfare Trust hen setup page is blunt: an ex-caged hen needs at least 1 square metre of clear floor, and a hen from any other system needs 2 square metres, plus a chance to range if you can offer it. The run is the daytime exercise area, not a substitute for that house. At night the Trust asks for a lockable house with a nest box, roosts, 30 square centimetres of floor per hen as written on its page, and 25 centimetres of perch each.

How Do You Stop Predators Digging Under the Mesh?

A clip-together outdoor chicken run is only as good as the hole a fox cannot make.
